SWTOR Flashpoint Guide

November 21st, 2011 by Jack Matthews

Wondering what SWTOR flashpoints are? Here’s a quick description for you to quickly grasp the concept and an overview of the known flashpoints.

Flashpoints are what is more commonly known as instances. When engaging in flashpoints, gamers will have to fight waves of enemies to complete a certain goal and earn the corresponding rewards. In SWTOR, flashpoints are highly story-driven and lots of action can be expected. Like other game’s instances, you would take on flashpoints with a group of allies. Group decisions, strategies and how well you work together can determine the outcomes of our efforts. In order to obtain some of the best items, gamers will want to strongly consider SWTOR flashpoints.

During the course of a flashpoint, gamers will find themselves conversing with NPCs which drives the story along. At the very start, every player will be asked to select from a set of options, after which a dice will be rolled which ultimately determines the chosen path the group will take. Take note that decisions made by each player will have affect on either one of this dark side points or light side points.

There are currently a couple known flashpoints. For the Galactic Republic, very early in the game, you will come across ‘The Esseles’ flashpoint. Midway through, there’s the Taral V. For the Sith Empire, there’s first ‘The Black Talon’ early on and then ‘Boarding Party’ half way through. Directive 7 is an end-game flashpoint that will be available to both SWTOR allegiance.

The Esseles is a republic-only flashpoint that is available very early in the game. Story-wise, it’s majorly about defending securing a republic ship from the imperial agents.

Taral V is a 4-man flashpoint that is available to gamers after they reach level 32. So far, the estimate given is roundabout 90 minute to complete.

The Black Talon is an empire-only flashpoint. Aim of the this SWTOR flashpoint is basically to take over an uncooperative imperial transport ship in order to intersect a republic ship.

Boarding Party is another empire-only flashpoint that is available mid-game. The aim is to track down a run-away from the imperial prison in order to prevent an attack on the Sith Empire.

Directive 7 is the only currently known flashpoint that is available to both allegiance at end-game. The main objective is to fight against droids together (the forces of the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire) in order to defend themselves from a massive rebellion. This one would be a very interesting flashpoint.

August 28th, 2011 by admin

This article provides a preliminary guide for SWTOR, more advanced content such as related gameplay strategies could be found in this SWTOR Complete Guides Bundle.

Focusing on the latest developer walkthrough for SWTOR, today we’ll focus on the Eternity Vault – a high-level Operation or raid, for a total of 8 players.

“A prison discovered buried in the ice on Belsavis is thought to house an ancient and deadly evil that could threaten the galaxy. To counter this threat, General Threnoldt dispatches Imperial forces to investigate the prison and confront the dangers within,” reads BioWare’s description of the video.

A short summary of the story reveals Belsavis landing in escape pods to regroup with other members of the Imperial to battle a small army of droids. In this skirmish, the video will reveal the many different roles that SWTOR classes can perform in battle. Similar to other MMOs, SWTOR has tank, healers, and DPS characters ready to step up and use their skills to advance in battle. Success and victory in this Operation depends on the ability of the team to work cohesively to get through the giant mech waiting to arrive.

*If there are no delays to SWTOR release date, you just might be able to play the SWTOR Eternity Vault later this year.

SWTOR Maps and Updates

July 11th, 2011 by admin

This article is a good starting point to learn about SWTOR Maps. Check out this SWTOR Complete Guides Bundle for more advanced details, insights and gameplay tactics.

Star Wars: the Old Republic brings new updates from Damion Schuibert on the importance of the creation and use of maps. As maps are the most frequently used part of the interface, Bioware feels they need to create a perfect map so users get a great feel when using the map to navigate themselves around the land and planets.
swtor maps

The end result is that we have maps that can show astonishing details about the game world. Chairs, crates, statues – all manner of items show up on the map from a birds-eye view, giving the player a real sense of where they are in the world. The resulting map was in fact so good that early on, we found unexpected obstacles were appearing on the map. After investigation, it turned out they were chandeliers and rafters rendered near the ceiling.

Encountered by every mmorpg gamer is the massive world they are thrown into and sometimes if the UI is not correctly made from the beginning can cause catastrophic issues for gamers and the game creators. So for the the Old Republic, they realized that this was a unique problem they had to deal with straight from the beginning as the game also encourages you to wander around exploring the world.

In the beginning, once your character leaves their Origin World, other planets will be exponentially bigger and larger in land and area when compared to other mmo’s, sometimes 5 or 6 times larger. So note the importance of this Map UI, as without this map UI, players would be lost in an instant.

SWTOR Lightsaber

May 23rd, 2011 by admin

Lightsaber crafting

This article provides a preliminary guide for SWTOR Lightsaber, more advanced content such as related gameplay strategies could be found in this SWTOR Guide.

Any Star Wars fan knows that there is nothing cooler than the ability to wield the laser sword known as lightsaber, since wielding a SWTOR lightsaber symbolize a user’s control over the force. Everyone dreams of a chance to have their very own lightsaber and if you can’t have it in real life, having one (or several) in game might suffice.

In SWTOR, you can choose to be either a Jedi or a Sith in order to gain access to the ability to wield a lightsaber. There is a slight difference in appearance between a Jedi lightsaber and a Sith lightsaber. A Jedi lightsaber would come in either green or blue due to the crystal called Adegan, also known as Ilum crystals which the Jedi uses to craft the lightsaber and can be found only in the Crystal cave on Ilum. In contrast, a Sith lightsaber emits red or sometimes purple plasma because of the synthetic crystal within the hilt.

SWTOR Lightsaber crafting will be available though specific details of how it will turn out have not been revealed yet. However there is a video showing a Jedi constructing a lightsaber in a cave followed by a scene where the Jedi is then attacked by a monster.

SWTOR Gamplay Guide – Flashpoints

May 8th, 2011 by Marcus

Group dungeons are common in most MMORPGs, in SWTOR, group dungeons are referred to flashpoints. So what does flashpoint gameplay entail? Similarly to dungeon attempts in other games, in SWTOR, you would take on flashpoints together with a group. SWTOR flashpoints are repeatable and involves the completion of quest to gain rewards.

Flashpoints in the game would come in two types, those that are specific to each faction (the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic) and those that both factions could attempt. How is SWTOR flashpoint gameplay different? Gamers will be able to control how the story goes in SWTOR flashpoints. Also, depending on how players make their choice, the rewards would differ as well. With that gamer driven feature, the SWTOR gameplay of flashpoints have good replay value.

Single player missions are not called flashpoints and considered another type of SWTOR gameplay. In generic terms, single player quests are called missions in Star Wars the Old Republic. Players who enjoys WoW-type gameplay would enjoy SWTOR flashpoints given that they are in fact repeatable, short to complete and specifies certain group sizes.

If you’re looking for more than preliminary info, this SWTOR Guide is recommended. The manual is also available as part of a SWTOR Complete Guides Bundle; further recommended for serious SWTOR gamers.
